Recruits of Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, shoot at life-sized targets during combat marksmanship training Sept. 18, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits practice a series of shooting and reloading drills at 25 and 100 yards from the targets. Combat marksmanship training gives recruits a basic understanding of practical shooting concepts such as firing quickly at moving and multiple targets. This portion of training is held two weeks after their first trip to the rifle range. Papa Company is schedule to graduate Oct. 10, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
