Pearl Harbor Survivor Frank Emond, 91, listens to the address given by Rear Adm. Joseph Kilkenny, commander, Naval Education and Training Command, at the annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance ceremony at the National Museum of Naval Aviation. Kilkenny told the gathered audience, "the Pearl Harbor Survivors are part of the fabric of our great nation." Emond was a musician with the band on the battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. He was assigned as a stretcher bearer for the wounded during the attack. "To this day, I can remember the smell of burned flesh. That's what stays with me," said Emond. (U.S. Navy photo by Joy Samsel/Released)
