The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), left, and USS Sterett (DDG 104) transit the Western Pacific Ocean during a photograph exercise (PHOTOEX) as part of Valiant Shield. Sterett is underway as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 17, are on deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
