From left, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Mustin (DDG 89), and USS Sterett (DDG 104), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Shiloh (CG 67), and USS Antietam (CG 54), the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) transit the Western Pacific Ocean during a photograph exercise (PHOTOEX) as part of Valiant Shield. Sterett and Bunker Hill are underway as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 17, are on deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
