Chief Aviation Electronics Technician David San Angelo, left, from Oak Harbor, Wash., and Chief Aviation Maintenance Administrationman Peter Winnenberg, from Louisville, Ky., both assigned to the Cougars of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 139, release aircraft for flight operations from maintenance control aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17, are on deployment in the 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.–only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
