Chief Logistics Specialist Bernard Abanto, from Los Angeles, receives anchors from his mentors during the Chief Petty Officer pinning ceremony aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). Bunker Hill is underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 17, are on deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
