Aviation Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class Zachary Peters, from Canisteo, N.Y., assigned to the Stingers of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 113, replaces the gasket in the canopy of an F/A-18C Hornet in the hangar bay of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Carl Vinson and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17, are on deployment in the 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.–only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
