Rct. Michael Person, a 19-year-old native of Painesville, Ohio, is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Person is training with Platoon 2084, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Oct. 24, 2014. “Both of my parents are veterans from the Army,” said Person, who graduated from Riverside High School this year. “Growing up, I knew I too would want to serve my country and be a part of something bigger than myself. I decided to go the Marine route to challenge myself in every aspect.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Vaniah Temple)
