Carl R. Gull makes his way to the top floor of the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point fire department training facility Sept. 9, 2014, during a ceremonial stair climb in honor of the firefighters lost in the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001. Firefighters with the air station’s department climbed 110 flights of stairs to commemorate the 343 New York City Fire Department members who gave their lives on 9/11. Gull is a firefighter with Cherry Point Security and Emergency Services, Fire Division. Gull was 18-years-old when the Twin Towers fell and remembers the exact moment. “I was a junior in high school, in a gym class, when suddenly all of the coaches went into their office,” said Gull, a former Marine corporal from Oklahoma City. “Shorty after, they stopped the class and gathered everyone in their office to watch the events on the television.”
