Maj. Gen. Terry Ferrell, 7th Infantry Division commander, poses with James Hayden, a retired master sergeant and veteran of both World War II and Korea, after awarding Hayden a Silver Star Sept. 3. The 88-year-old Hayden was on JBLM to receive a Prisoner of War Medal he earned during the Korean War, as well as a medal thanking him for his service from the Republic of Korea. In addition, when Hayden revealed he was never presented a Silver Star he earned in World War II, Ferrell quickly got one and formally presented it to Hayden. Ferrell and Hayden are holding the original Silver Star citation, issued in 1945. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Leon Cook)
