Lieutenant Col. George Hasseltine, commanding officer of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South, and a native of Metairie, La., presents an “America Visits the Americas” coin to Vice Adm. Christian De la Maza Riquelme, Chilean Navy Chief of Staff, commemorating the Chilean visit aboard the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) in the Strait of Magellan, Aug. 19, 2014. American and Chilean diplomats and military officials were aboard America for a key leader engagement. The KLE consisted of a ship tour, a formal lunch and a leadership conference discussing the importance of partnership and cooperation between the U.S. Naval forces and the Nation of Chile. SPMAGTF-South is embarked aboard America in support of her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas.” The transit aims to demonstrate the capabilities the Navy-Marine Corps team brings to our nation and partners.
