Capt. Brent Smith, Chief of Staff, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, and Rear Adm. Rick Williams, commander of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, arrive to Battleship Missouri Memorial for a retirement ceremony on Ford Island, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Smith completed 34 years of naval service, starting his career as enlisted and advancing to the rank of captain. Retirement ceremonies are a time honored tradition and Nation's expression of appreciation to an individual for the work they have done and mark the end of a rewarding career and life in the Navy.
