A folded firefighter's uniform sits at the foot of a memorial in honor of Staff Sgt. Ray Rangel. a fire emergency services technician, at the Balad Fire Department here. Base first-responders gathered at the memorial, Feb. 13, for a remembrance ceremony held in honor of Rangel. Rangel died, Feb. 13, 2005, while attempting to save two Soldiers trapped in an overturned humvee in a canal in northern Iraq. The memorial was constructed in 2007 in memoriam of Rangel and the ultimate sacrifice he made.
