The 251st Engineer Company, Maine Army National Guard, fired live javelin missiles during their annual training at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. The Javelin is a medium range anti-armor missile that is capable of destroying armored vehicles and buildings. It is an expensive piece of equipment so most training with it is done using basic skills trainers, that simulate most of the weapons characteristics, but not all. The live fire exercise was an opportunity for Maine soldiers to put their skills to practice.
