Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Brett Costa, from Bristol, R.I., fires an M4 rifle during a weapons qualification aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is on a scheduled deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit to promote peace and freedom of the seas by providing deterrence, humanitarian aid and disaster relief while supporting the Navy's maritime strategy in the U.S. 7th and 5th Fleet areas of responsibility.
