Staff Sgt. Richard Contawe, detachment commander of the Lakeport-based 129th Concrete Company, 579th Engineer Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, California Army National Guard, tends to wet concrete in Fairfield, Calif., Aug. 7. The Lodi resident and former Marine has been doing concrete work for over 20 years. The concrete, donated by a local business, will support a fallen Soldier memorial sculpture that will become the centerpiece of a memorial park being constructed at the SFC Isaac Shawn Lawson Memorial Armory. Lawson, a Desert Storm veteran and military police investigator, was killed by an improvised explosive device while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Baghdad on June 5, 2006.
