USNS Carl Brashear (T-AKE 7) launches into San Diego harbor during its christening and launch ceremony at General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, Sept. 18, 2008. The ship was named in honor of Boatswain's Mate Master Chief Carl Brashear, who was the first African-American to qualify to serve as a master diver while on active duty.
