An Iraqi police officer removes radios, tactical gear, and other electronics found buried in the yard of a mosque in Lahib, northeast Karmah, Jan. 10. Iraqi police along with Marines from 2nd Platoon, Company W, Task Force 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1, conducted a 13-hour weapons cache sweep in the more populated area of Karmah, typically unused for harboring weapons. Marines left Karmah's main police station months ago, leaving it to be solely operated by the IP. The cache discovery near the center of Karmah demonstrates the Iraqi police increasing proficiency and self-sustaining security capabilities as Marines continue transitioning to an overwatch position.
