Retired Sgt. Adam Hartswick, a native of State College, Pa., sits pensively in the operating room of the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit on Kandahar Airfield Afghanistan, July 10. Hartswick was treated in this facility just over a year ago after receiving wounds in combat while serving as a medic with the 1st Armored Division.
