The promotion ceremony of Brig. Gen. (P) Carl Tempel Sept. 1, 1960. Two weeks later Tempel assumed command of Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado. The general's assignment prior to Fitzsimons was chief of the Professional Division in the Office of The Surgeon General (OTSG) in Washington, D.C. During his tenure, he championed the expansion of opportunities for Medical Service Corps (MSC) in administrative positions.
