Sailors, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1, Company 1-5, stand ready aboard Military Sealift Command's (MSC) Rescue and Salvage ship USNS Safeguard (T-ARS 50) to conduct a replenishment at sea with MSC's Dry Cargo and Ammunition ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10). Safeguard and embarked MDSU 1 is underway between Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2014 Exercises. In its 20th year, CARAT is an annual, bilateral exercise series with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the armed forces of nine partner nations including Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor-Leste.
