U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Richard Schrekengaust, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) surgeon, provides medical attention to a person in distress aboard the USS Bataan (LHD 5), at sea, June 6, 2014. Bataan, with support from Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU, rendered assistance to 282 persons in distress at sea in the Mediterranean after receiving a report of a sinking small vessel. Elements of the 22nd MEU, embarked aboard Bataan, are operating in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations to augment U.S. crisis response forces in the region. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
