Paratroopers with the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, work at a weapons station assembling M2 .50-Cal. machine guns and an M9 pistol during the unit’s “Spur Ride” May 27, 2014, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The paratroopers completed the spur ride to earn the highly coveted “Silver Spurs.” The spurs are earned by Cavalry unit Soldiers who complete rigorous physical and mental tests based on Cavalry tasks, history and tradition.
