Volunteer firefighter John McDonald makes final adjustments to a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) before entering a fire scenario in the 1970s. McDonald, a Navy veteran, passed away while on duty at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), while serving as a Fire Battalion Chief at the JBAB-based Naval District Washington Fire and Emergency Services Central Battalion on May 30, 2014. He continued his volunteer service until his death. He was a life member of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department and served in many roles, including a term as its fire chief, during his 40 years of service there. He served as an NDW paid firefighter for 30 years at the time of his passing. A full honors funeral will be held, followed by internment at Quantico National Cemetery on June 6, 2014.
