The U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic, James “Wally” Brewster, visited Task Force Larimar at Forward Operation Site Iguana in Barahona, Dominican Republic, May 27. The purpose of his visit was to witness the effort of the task force during the humanitarian assistance training exercise Beyond the Horizon. The head of the task force, Lt. Col. Christopher Dziubek, and Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Kiess took the ambassador on a tour that began by showing him the facilities throughout the FOS and ended at the Medical Readiness Training Exercise site in the Paraiso municipality. TF Larimar is currently conducting engineering work at five different sites. Three of the sites will be medical clinics and the other two will be used as school partitions in the province of Barahona. This will provide local residents better opportunities to receive medical attention as well as education. Additionally, free medical services including geriatrics, gynecologists, dentists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, pediatricians and pharmacists will be available throughout different sectors of Barahona as part of the BTH exercise.
