U.S. Army Spc. Ajitkumar Baridun, a field radio operator with 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, crosses the halfway point the 3rd Annual Bayanihan Fun Run held in Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Palayan City, Philippines, as part of exercise Balikatan 2014, May 9. Bayanihan means “communal spirit” in Filipino, and the 7.3 km race was just one of the many activities conducted to create cohesion and to help the soldiers loosen up after a long work week and a high operational tempo. Baridun was the 3rd fastest runner with the U.S. Army. Balikatan is a bilateral training exercise between the Philippines and U.S. designed to improve cooperation and interoperability between the two nations’ armed forces through training as well as humanitarian aid and disaster relief projects, and to increase stability and security within the region.
