Team 11's leader, Sgt. Samuel Nelson, 806th Route Clearance Company from Bee Branch, Ark., places a poker chip at a suspicious spot at the mine detection event on day two of 2014 Sapper Stakes, Fort McCoy, Wis., May 6. Nelson uses poker chips as visual markers said Nelson because they're nonmetallic and stand out against the natural terrain. Teams must calibrate and test fielded equipment before searching for hidden mines along a preselected route. Nelson must field the metal detector in a slow sweeping pattern searching for and marking unusual indicators. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Roger Ashley)
