University of Maryland University College had their first graduation ceremony in history at the Kaiserslautern Gartenschau for the 2014 graduation. Col. Bryan DeCoster, the U.S. Army Garrison commander for Baden Wurttemberg, was present to give his congratulations to those receiving their degrees. The commencement, May 3, 2014, was the university’s first in the new city. UMUC had been previously based in Munich and Heidelberg, Germany.
