Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) prepare to onload M1151 vehicles aboard USS Carter Hall. The embarked Marines are transiting to Haiti to provide humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. USS Bataan (LHD 5), USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) and USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) deployed Jan. 14. Providing military support capabilities to civil authorities to help stabilize and improve the situation in the wake of natural and man-made disasters is a core Navy mission.
