Capt. K.B. Canady, commanding officer of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex, holds an all-hands call after a frocking and awards ceremony in the hangar bay. During the ceremony, Commander Expeditionary Strike Group 7 Rear Adm, Richard B. Landolt took the time to frock 47 Essex petty officers and presented 14 awards. Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group and serves as the flagship for CTF 76, the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious force commander.
