Marines from 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, remembered 1st Lt. Jason Mann, platoon commander, and Cpl. William Cooper, scout sniper, in a ceremony, Oct. 24, 2008. They both died during the unit's seven-month deployment to southern Afghanistan. Mann received a Navy Commendation Medal with a Combat Valor attachment. Cooper received a Bronze Star with a Combat Valor attachment for his leadership and actions against the ambushing Taliban fighters who eventually took his life.
