Second Lt. Sherita J. Caldwell, a nurse with the 146th Medical Group out of Port Hueneme, Calif., tightens the straps on a litter carrying Capt. Lynn L. Maupin, a nurse practitioner with the 996th Area Support Medical Company out of Tempe, Ariz. during Alaska Shield 14 here, March 31, 2014. The Air National Guard worked closely with the Army National Guard to conduct patient evacuations training, which took place on a C-130 Hercules. Alaska Shield 14 is an exercise that involves federal, state, local and military agencies, designed to test response and coordination efforts during a disaster and is modeled after the 1964 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that devastated much of South Central Alaska including the city of Valdez.
