    I Marine Expeditionary Force

Sgt. Samuel R. Lott, a 23-year-old motor transportation operator from Mojave Valley, Ariz., with Headquarters and Support Co., Regimental Combat Team 1, receives his promotion warrant, Oct. 1, 2008, at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. Lott was first deployed to Fallujah for a year in February of 2004 with RCT-1, then again with the same unit to the same area of operations in January 2008. As one of the few Marines in his platoon to deploy to al Anbar Province, Lott quickly was looked to as a leader by both Marines his junior and his senior for guidance and training.
