Cmdr. Joel Newman, rabbi, explains a little bit about a Torah in the chapel in the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, during a introduction class to the Jewish religious holiday of Yom Kippur that was held prior to a brief Yom Kippur service. Rabbi Newman went to school to be a scribe while he studied to become a Rabbi. Scribes completely hand write Torahs. Ronald Reagan is currently deployed to the 5th Fleet/NAVCENT area of responsibility. Operations in the NAVCENT area of operations are focused on reassuring regional partners of the United States' commitment to security, which promotes stability and global prosperity.
