Rear Adm. David F. Steindl, commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), talks with freshmen Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) midshipmen from colleges and universities that make up the Chicago Consortium at the Naval Station Great Lakes Marina Aug. 15. The midshipmen were attending an annual 10-day freshmen orientation course. The Chicago Consortium is made up of midshipmen from Northwestern University, University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology and Loyola University. Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, oversees 98 percent of initial officer and enlisted accessions training for the Navy.
