Lance Cpl. Justin R. Beer, a rifleman assigned to Wounded Warrior Battalion West, recently competed in the 2014 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif, March 6 to 12. Beer, a native of Bushnell, Ill., was wounded in the left thigh by enemy sniper fire, May 27, 2013, while deployed with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, to Musa Qal'ah district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This week, Beer competed with wounded warriors throughout the world in the 200 meter sprint and archery events. Beer said he received excellent care at Naval Medical Center San Diego, and his recovery has been quick and easy. He enrolled in college courses while receiving treatment. Beer is a 2010 graduate of Bushnell-Prairie City High School. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Jacob H. Harrer / released)
