U.S. Navy F/A-18F, Bureau No.165875, Salty Dog 120, of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23) conducts catapult testing at the TC-7 site on NAS Patuxent River while the pilot wears a new version of the aircrew chemical protective ensemble Dec. 16, 2011. The aircrew chemical protective ensemble is being test flown from the front seat, but because it is an unproven item the pilot in the backseat is there to take the controls if needed. Pilot is U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. William "Slab" Berryman while Lt. Jonathan "Buddy" Slager is in the backseat. VX-23 is part of Naval Test Wing Atlantic at NAS Patuxent River, Md.
