Staff Sgt. Emerson Greason, an academics instructor, teaches Marine Corps history Feb. 27, 2014, to recruits of Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits learn Marine Corps history from its founding in 1775 to its recent operations to prepare them for their future as Marines. The Marine Corps’ 238-year legacy sets an example for recruits and Marines. Greason is a 31-year-old native of São Paulo, Brazil. Hotel Company is scheduled to graduate May 9, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
