Rct. Callahan Brown, 18, from Springfield, Va., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Brown is training with Platoon 4007, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Feb. 28, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I just wanted to make a huge impact on an individual’s life. I just wanted to change someone’s whole world, just make a difference even if it’s just in one person’s life. Marines take the extra step and go above and beyond all measures to do what they need to do to get the mission complete. I knew here I could make that difference,” said Brown, who graduated from West Springfield High School in 2013. Brown’s father is a colonel in the Air Force. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
