Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Every recruit who graduates from Parris Island, S.C., learns to fire an M16-A4 rifle, which shoots 5.56 mm bullets. Since every Marine is expected to know how to wield a rifle, recruits spend more than two weeks learning the fundamentals of combat marksmanship and applying them on the island’s rifle ranges.
