Frederick C. Branch became the first ever African-American Marine officer on Nov. 10, 1945. In honor of his success, the Frederick C. Branch Scholarship Program was created nearly 70 years later in 2006. Each year, 34 four-year Frederick C. Branch Scholarships are offered to students who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
