Residents of Haiti start to rebuild their homes and neighborhoods after recent damage from Hurricane Ike. America's contribution to the relief efforts are coordinated by the United States Agency for International Development and its Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance. The amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge has been diverted from the scheduled Continuing Promise 2008 humanitarian assistance deployment in the western Caribbean to conduct hurricane relief operations in Haiti.
