Marines practice their fast-roping techniques Jan. 8 at Camp Hansen. The Marines fast-roped down from a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter in a precision hover at 30 feet. More than 100 infantrymen completed two iterations, one with minimal equipment and the second with full packs and weapons. The Marines are with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, currently assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The helicopter and crew are with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, currently assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, III MEF, both part of the unit deployment program.
