Rct. Ryan Stanley, a 22-year-old native of Sturbridge, Mass., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Stanley is training with Platoon 3010, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Feb. 14, 2014. “I’ve always been intrigued by the Marine Corps. Some of the greatest men I’ve ever met in my life have been Marines. I love the fact everything in the Marine Corps strives for perfection. I’ve always wanted to join the Marine Corps in case my country ever had to call upon me,” said Stanley, who graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School in Fiskdale, Mass., in 2008 before graduating from State University of New York in Plattsburgh, N.Y., in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
