Staff Sgt. Ben Beermann, 379 Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron, fabrication flight, smoothes out rough spots on a non flush patch he created Sep. 1, 2008. Sergeant Beermann fixed a crack in a, 7th Expeditionary Airborne Command and Control Squadron, Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System aircraft cowling by creating a non flush patch that would provide structural integrity and keep the elements out. He measured, cut, punched in matched up rivet holes, and then smoothed out all the rough edges before attaching the patch to the cowling. The JSTARS platform provides an airborne, stand-off range, surveillance and target acquisition radar and command and control centre supporting Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. Beermann is a native of Dakota City, Neb., and is deployed from Robbins Air Force Base, Ga.
