NEW YORK - Chief Petty Officer John C. Kast, the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Line, reviews a navigation plan with his crew prior to getting underway for Operation Clear Channel, Friday, July 10, 2009.

Operation Clear Channel, an initiative by Coast Guard Sector New York and various outlying units, aims to educate boaters about the dangers if fishing in busy shipping channels within the Port of New York/New Jersey area.

The Line, homeported in Bayonne, N.J., is a 65-foot icebreaking tug with missions in icebreaking, search and rescue, law enforcement, and aids to navigation maintenance.
