The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, addresses a formation of U.S. Coast Guardsmen at the port of Mina Salman, Bahrain, Nov. 13. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is part of the Department of Homeland Security and plays an important role in supporting Maritime Security Operations in Iraqi territorial waters as part of Combined Task Force (CTF ) 158 tasked with protecting Iraq's two main oil terminals, Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya. The USCG's Middle East Training Team also trains Coalition and regional nations' maritime forces in Maritime Law Enforcement as well as boarding techniques and procedures. While Chertoff was in Bahrain he met with H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and H.M. Crown Prince and Commander in Chief of the Bahrain Defense Force Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Chertoff's tour of the region included Iraq where he presided over the citizenship naturalization of over 180 members of the U.S. Armed Forces; and Amman, Jordan where he visited the offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services which help Iraqi refugees with resettlement in the United States.
