    Maritime Law Enforcement training

PACIFIC OCEAN - Petty Officer 2nd Class Richard Manzer, stationed on the CGC Sherman, practices applying handcuffs Oct. 28, 2008, during Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) training held in the helicopter hangar here. MLE training is held to prepare and qualify boarding team members to perform armed intervention aboard fishing vessels operating in high seas and waters under U.S jurisdiction. The teams will operate in extreme weather and sea conditions, making inspections, seizures and arrests to prevent violations of U.S. law. The training takes place during a two-month long Alaska Patrol, where Sherman crewmembers will conduct fisheries enforcement, law enforcement, and search and rescue, if necessary.
