PACIFIC OCEAN -- The Long Range Interceptor (LRI), one of Coast Guard Cutter BERTHOLF's three small boats, launches from BERTHOLF's stern launch Oct. 30, 2008. BERTHOLF's crew, along with a team from Coast Guard Headquarters and civilian contractors, are currently testing BERTHOLF's launch and recovery system in increasingly high seas to determine in what conditions the LRI can safely operate. BERTHOLF is the flagship Legend Class National Security Cutter, the Coast Guard's first new class of cutter in 25 years. (U.S. Coast Guard photo/PA3 Henry G. Dunphy)
