Coast Guard personnel man the Incident Management Team to assist in the placement of Coast Guard assets and monitor port conditions in the anticipated of Hurricane Gustav.
The IMT was set up August 30 as a precaution and to better prepare local Coast Guard units for the impending hurricane.
The Coast Guard urges mariners to seek safe waters well in advance of the storm and for people on land to heed mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders as soon as they are issued.
